UAE Launches Dh50,000 Prize to Challenge Creatives to Master AI
The rapid rise of artificial intelligence has sparked a heated debate within the UAE’s creative community, oscillating between fears of artistic erosion and excitement over new possibilities. While some musicians and artists push back against the proliferation of automated content, Michel El Gemayel, CEO of the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF), views the situation differently. He believes that the most enduring art is not that which simply showcases a tool’s capabilities, but rather that which uses technology so seamlessly that the medium disappears, allowing the core idea to take center stage.
To foster this intentional approach, ADMAF has teamed up with G42 and the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence to launch a new award featuring a Dh50,000 prize. The initiative invites UAE-based creatives to push the boundaries of their craft by integrating advanced AI, with the most promising talents invited to join an intensive fellowship where they will collaborate directly with top researchers. Rather than prescribing a specific style, the project seeks works that bridge the gap between the UAE’s rich heritage and the digital future, encouraging artists to frame the past and present within the same artistic vision. By prioritizing depth and restraint, the program aims to ensure that technology serves as a meaningful instrument in the hands of creators rather than a replacement for human ingenuity.
