India’s New Health Declaration: What UAE Travelers Need to Know
Travelers flying from the UAE to India are adjusting to the latest travel protocol: the mandatory Air Suvidha 2.0 health portal. Launched in late June, this self-declaration system requires international arrivals to report their 21-day travel history and any symptoms of illness, a measure implemented following a global health alert regarding the Ebola virus. While many Indian expats feel a sense of déjà vu, noting the similarities to the pandemic-era travel requirements, the consensus is that the new system is far more streamlined. Travel agents are actively assisting clients by distributing the form well in advance to ensure a smooth transition through immigration.
Despite the relative simplicity of the form, some passengers have voiced concerns, particularly regarding the digital verification process. Because the portal requires a mobile OTP for authentication, elderly travelers and large families are finding it slightly more challenging to navigate on their own. While frequent flyers like Mohammed Abbas have found the process quick and straightforward, others are worried about seniors who may not be comfortable with modern technology. Indian authorities continue to encourage all passengers to complete the declaration within 24 hours of their departure, emphasizing that advance preparation is the best way to avoid unnecessary delays at the airport.
