Emirati Teenager Fatima Al Awadhi Aims for Historic Seven Summits Milestone
At just 18 years old, Emirati mountaineer Fatima Al Awadhi is rapidly turning her ambitious dream of conquering the world’s Seven Summits before the age of 20 into a reality. Having already made history as the youngest Arab to summit Mount Vinson and the Carstensz Pyramid, along with becoming the youngest Emirati to reach the top of Mount Elbrus, Fatima is now setting her sights on her most daunting challenge yet: Kyrgyzstan’s Lenin Peak. Standing at 7,134 meters, this grueling expedition serves as a pivotal step in her ultimate goal of achieving the Explorer’s Grand Slam, a feat that demands not only climbing the highest peaks on every continent but also skiing to both the North and South Poles.
Fatima’s journey into the world of extreme mountaineering began as a personal quest for strength while coping with her father’s health struggles during her high school years. What started as a coping mechanism through the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award has since evolved into a powerful mission to showcase the resilience and ambition of UAE youth. Supported by the patronage of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, whom she views as her greatest inspiration, Fatima skillfully manages the intense physical and logistical demands of elite climbing while simultaneously pursuing a degree in economics. With four of the Seven Summits already behind her, she is now looking toward even loftier horizons, including an audacious plan to summit both Mount Everest and Lhotse within a single 24-hour window.
