India Mourns Loss of Seafarer Following Iranian Missile Attack on UAE Tankers
The Indian government has officially expressed its deep alarm following a lethal strike on two United Arab Emirates commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the attackâattributed to Iranian cruise missilesâresulted in the tragic death of one Indian national and left nine others injured. The affected ships, the MT Al Bahiyah and the MT Mombasa, were carrying a combined crew of 30 Indians at the time of the incident. In response to the violence, New Delhi has summoned the Deputy Chief of Mission from the Iranian Embassy to lodge a formal protest, condemning the aggression against civilian infrastructure and the reckless endangerment of safe passage through vital international waters.
In the wake of the escalation, the UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that the vessels were hit while transiting southern shipping lanes within Omani territorial waters, causing significant fires and material damage. While emergency teams have since contained the blazes, the UAE has declared its right to respond decisively to protect its sovereignty and the safety of all those within its borders. India has joined the call for an immediate end to these hostilities, urging all parties to prioritize the security of commercial shipping and cease the targeting of civilian crews to restore stability to one of the worldâs most critical maritime corridors.
