UAE’s Hidden Gem: Discovering the Year-Round Waterfall of Wadi Wurayah

Mon, Jul 27, 2026(45d ago)UAE

Tucked away in the rugged Hajar Mountains of Fujairah, Wadi Wurayah stands as a rare ecological treasure where a 13-metre-high waterfall flows steadily throughout the year. Long kept under wraps to protect its delicate biodiversity, this UNESCO World Heritage site has finally opened its doors to the public through a carefully managed system. Since January 2026, visitors have been able to explore the reserve during the hiking season, which runs from early to mid-October. By partnering exclusively with Fujairah Holidays, authorities ensure that tourism remains sustainable, preventing the environmental degradation that necessitated the area's closure in 2013.

The reserve is far more than just a scenic hiking spot; it is a vital sanctuary for over 1,000 species, including rare Arabian tahr, caracal, and unique flora like the wild orchid. Prospective visitors can book guided day tours through the official Fujairah Holidays portal, with sessions held on Saturdays to maintain a low impact on the fragile ecosystem. This controlled access allows guests to witness the same spring-fed pools and vibrant life that researchers and "citizen scientists" have spent years protecting. By balancing public interest with strict conservation, the Fujairah Environment Authority is preserving this extraordinary landscape—a geological marvel where ancient ophiolite rock formations have sustained life for an estimated 10,000 years.
