Abu Dhabi Coach Conquers 'Everest' Within a Single Stairwell

Mon, Jul 27, 2026(3h ago)UAE

Veljko Vukićević, a fitness coach based in Abu Dhabi, recently redefined the concept of "Everesting" by scaling the equivalent height of Mount Everest—8,848 meters—without ever stepping foot on a mountain. Over the course of 16 grueling hours, the Serbian native climbed a local Reem Island staircase 59 times, totaling roughly 54,000 steps. By choosing a mundane, repetitive indoor environment, Vukićević aimed to prove that significant life goals don't require scenic backdrops or special equipment; they simply require the mental fortitude to endure consistency and overcome the urge to quit.

The challenge was as much a psychological battle as it was a physical one. Vukićević intentionally avoided music and distractions, choosing instead to stay present as he climbed to the 49th floor repeatedly, relying on elevator rides down as his only moments of recovery. While he burned an estimated 7,000 calories and pushed his body to its limits, he notes that his greatest obstacle was the persistent voice in his head questioning the necessity of the next step. Ultimately, he hopes his achievement serves as a reminder that everyone faces their own "Everest" in life, and that true progress begins the moment one decides to step outside their comfort zone.
