In a move to honor those dedicated to sustaining the United Arab Emirates’ rich cultural traditions, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has announced a generous Dh1-million grant for participants of the Dubai Date Festival. The recently concluded third edition of the event, hosted at Qalaat Al Rimal, served as a vibrant platform for 15 unique competitions highlighting the historical and social importance of the palm tree. By introducing new categories this year, the festival successfully fostered a sense of community among farmers, families, and institutions, reinforcing the date’s essential role in Emirati identity.

Beyond the festival grounds, the spirit of the season continues through the ‘Kharayef Al Rutab’ initiative, led by Dubai’s Community Development Authority. This humanitarian program focuses on gathering fresh, locally grown dates to share with the community, aiming to reach over 5,000 families this year. Supported by a dedicated team of 1,000 Emirati volunteers and various national farms, the initiative ensures that the bounty of the harvest provides meaningful social value. By effectively distributing these seasonal crops, the program not only celebrates agricultural success but also strengthens the bonds of solidarity across Dubai’s diverse neighborhoods.
