UAE issues weather alerts as rain and hail sweep across northern regions

Mon, Jul 27, 2026(45d ago)UAE

Parts of the UAE saw a sudden shift in weather on Monday as heavy rains and hail descended on regions including Masafi, Fujairah, and Ras Al Khaimah. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) had previously forecasted the formation of convective clouds, prompting officials to issue yellow and orange alerts for the eastern areas. Residents have been urged to exercise extreme caution, particularly while driving, and to stay clear of flood-prone areas or elevated spots during instances of thunder and lightning.

The NCM remains vigilant, with alerts for hazardous weather expected to persist into the evening. Looking ahead, the country has experienced several uncharacteristic rainy days this summer, a trend experts believe may be linked to the El Niño phenomenon. Meteorologists suggest that this climatic pattern will likely lead to increased humidity and cloud formation throughout October and November, potentially resulting in higher-than-average rainfall as the season transitions into autumn.
