Progress on the Dubai Metro Blue Line Hits Major Milestone

Wed, Jul 29, 2026(1h ago)UAE

Construction of the Dubai Metro Blue Line is moving rapidly, with a major breakthrough occurring deep beneath the surface at the future Dragon Mart station. A massive tunnel boring machine (TBM) has successfully completed its initial 1.2km underground trek, punching through into the station site. Currently, the station is a hive of activity as hundreds of workers install concrete structures and steel reinforcements, transforming the cavernous underground space into a functional transport hub. Measuring roughly 39,480 square meters, the facility is rapidly taking shape as the structural foundation nears completion.

The TBM, a 160-meter-long engineering marvel, operates around the clock, advancing up to 30 meters on its most productive days while simultaneously installing concrete segments to stabilize the tunnel. With the first phase of tunneling now concluded, the machine is being prepared to continue its excavation toward Al Warqa. This project is part of a larger, synchronized effort across the Blue Line, with over 2,000 workers currently deployed across Dragon Mart, International City 1, and International City 2. While much of this labor remains hidden from the view of shoppers above, the steady progress marks a significant step forward in expanding Dubai’s transit infrastructure for the future.
