Sharjah Forms New Committee to Provide Addiction Support
In a significant move to strengthen local welfare efforts, the Sharjah Executive Council recently announced the establishment of a specialized committee dedicated to evaluating addiction cases and providing necessary support to those in need. Officially known as the 'Addiction Case Assessment and Support Committee,' this new body will operate under the jurisdiction of the Sharjah Police. It will be led by the Director-General of the General Department of Criminal Security and Ports, ensuring that a coordinated, security-focused approach is balanced with essential rehabilitative support.
The committee is composed of a diverse group of key officials, including the heads of the Anti-Narcotics, Prevention and Follow-up, and Institutional Security departments, among others. By bringing together leadership from the Suburbs Police Stations and the Community and Legal Affairs departments, the initiative aims to create a comprehensive framework for addressing substance abuse. Furthermore, the committee retains the flexibility to incorporate representatives from additional departments, as directed by the Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, allowing it to adapt its strategy as the emirate’s social needs evolve.
