Sharjah’s ambitious Dh500-million Mid-Line Drainage Project has officially reached the 70% completion milestone, marking a major leap forward in the city’s efforts to resolve persistent flooding issues. Designed to tackle the accumulation of stormwater and groundwater in high-density residential zones and key roadways, the initiative serves as a permanent solution rather than a temporary fix. By channeling excess water directly into the sea and integrating with existing drainage systems, the project aims to minimize environmental damage, prevent structural risks to building foundations, and significantly improve traffic safety during the rainy season.

The project is a centerpiece of the Emirate’s vision to modernize infrastructure in response to the challenges posed by climate change and increasingly unpredictable weather. Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Sharjah Public Works Department, emphasized that the undertaking is backed by the leadership’s commitment to sustainable urban development.
