Dubai’s Support Offers Hope for Stranded Kenyan Mother and Newborn

Wed, Jul 29, 2026(1h ago)UAE

A Kenyan mother, who traveled to Dubai in search of better job prospects, is now receiving vital assistance to return home after finding herself stranded with her newborn. Her journey, which began with hopes of supporting her family back in Kenya, quickly spiraled into a crisis due to unforeseen circumstances that left her jobless, homeless, and without the travel documents needed to leave the country. She is currently being cared for at Dubai’s Centre for Harbouring, a facility managed by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) that provides refuge for individuals caught in vulnerable situations.

The center has provided the mother and her child with comprehensive support, including essential medical care, nutrition, clothing, and psychological counseling. Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Dubai, emphasized that the facility operates with a human-centric approach, noting that many residents are victims of deceptive recruitment practices. Officials are now working closely with Kenyan authorities to expedite the paperwork and travel arrangements necessary for the pair to return safely. This support ensures that, despite the months of uncertainty she faced, the mother can look forward to a fresh start with her baby back in her home country.
