Dubai Duty Free Becomes First Airport Retailer to Accept Cryptocurrency

Wed, Aug 5, 2026(45d ago)UAE

Dubai Duty Free has officially become the first airport retailer in the Middle East to embrace cryptocurrency, integrating Crypto.com Pay into its payment ecosystem. Travelers passing through Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International (AMIA), as well as those shopping via their website, can now utilize their Crypto.com accounts to settle transactions. The process is seamless and secure, as the retailer receives immediate settlement in UAE dirhams while the transaction is handled through a fully regulated payment infrastructure.

This move aligns with the broader Dubai Cashless Strategy under the D33 economic agenda, which strives to move 90 percent of regional financial transactions toward digital platforms by 2026. Whether shopping in-store via QR codes, online, or on mobile devices, customers can complete their purchases by simply scanning or tapping through the Crypto.com app. By joining other established digital payment methods like Apple Pay and Alipay, this initiative highlights Dubai's commitment to becoming a global hub for financial innovation while operating under the strict regulatory oversight of the Central Bank of the UAE.
