Sharjah is mourning the loss of Abdullah Duha Askar Al Kaabi, a 107-year-old Emirati patriarch who passed away following a six-year battle with cancer. Born in 1919, Al Kaabi served as a living bridge between the UAE’s pre-union days and its modern era. Beyond his remarkable longevity, he was widely revered for his profound moral character and deep community spirit. Despite having no formal education, he earned a reputation as a wise mediator, a devout man of faith who maintained his composure and gratitude even during his final days in the intensive care unit, and a pillar of the Al Fili region who spent his life fostering unity and peace among his neighbors.

Al Kaabi’s legacy is defined as much by his fatherly love as by his community service. Though his own sons, Mohammed and Salem, were born later in his life, Al Kaabi had long served as a father figure to numerous orphans in the community, providing them with care and guidance. His commitment to others left a lasting impression on those who knew him, including educators like Abdul Hafez Al Hawarat, who recalled Al Kaabi’s dedication—often walking miles just to check on his children’s progress at school. His life, marked by kindness, immense patience, and an enduring focus on prayer, continues to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him, cementing his status as a cherished representative of traditional Emirati values.
