Etihad Rail, in collaboration with AD Ports Group, has officially launched a new direct rail freight service connecting Fujairah Terminals to the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD). This initiative introduces a tri-weekly rail link that allows containers to be transported directly to an inland customs-enabled gateway, streamlining the path for importers, exporters, and manufacturers. By designating ICAD with its own UN LOCODE (AECAD), the project enables businesses to book the industrial zone as a primary destination, significantly cutting down on cargo handling and simplifying complex customs procedures.

Beyond just efficiency, this rail corridor serves as a strategic move to optimize supply chains across the UAE. By transitioning freight from traditional long-haul trucking to the rail network, companies can expect faster delivery times, reduced road congestion, and a lower carbon footprint. This development marks a major milestone for the UAE National Rail Network, which aims to transport 60 million tonnes of freight annually by 2030, further cementing Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a vital global hub for trade and industrial logistics.
