UK Lifts Travel Restrictions for Major Gulf Nations
Following the recent memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran, which has helped ease regional tensions and reopened the Strait of Hormuz, the UK government has officially withdrawn its advisory against non-essential travel to several Gulf states. Travelers can now plan trips to the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman, as well as specific provinces in Saudi Arabia. While the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) acknowledges a newfound stability, it maintains a note of caution, warning that the regional climate remains somewhat unpredictable and that the situation could change rapidly.
Despite these updates, the UK continues to enforce strict travel warnings for other parts of the region. Citizens are still advised to avoid all travel to Iran due to the high risk of detention for British and dual nationals, while travel to Yemen remains prohibited entirely due to ongoing security concerns. For those currently in or traveling to the Gulf, the FCDO recommends staying informed via local media, keeping travel documents current, and being prepared to follow safety protocols—such as seeking secure indoor shelter—should the security situation deteriorate again.
