Tensions Escalate at UN as Israeli Envoy Confronts Officials Over Bias Allegations

Sat, Jun 20, 2026(45d ago)World

A tense confrontation erupted at the United Nations this past Friday during a public hearing dedicated to the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. The proceedings took a hostile turn when Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, launched a sharp verbal attack against UN representatives Pramila Patten and Vanessa Frazier. Danon explicitly demanded the resignation of Patten, accusing her of deep-seated bias following a report that placed Israel on a global blacklist for alleged abuses. He further criticized the UN leadership, claiming the institution has become obsessed with targeting the Israeli state.

The situation grew increasingly volatile when Vanessa Frazier, representing the UN Secretary-General on children and armed conflict, attempted to intervene. Frazier called for a point of order to stop what she deemed personal attacks, asserting that her team’s findings were backed by verified evidence. In a defiant response, Danon told the official to remain silent, insisting that as a member state representative, he held authority over the UN staffer. This public clash underscores the rapidly deteriorating relationship between Israel and the UN, especially as Israel faces inclusion in “lists of shame” regarding the treatment of children and women in conflict zones, alongside its adversary, Hamas.
