Operation Amistad: India Deploys Emergency Aid to Venezuela Following Deadly Earthquakes

Fri, Jun 26, 2026(9h ago)World

In a swift humanitarian response, India has launched "Operation Amistad" to provide critical support to Venezuela following the devastating double earthquakes that recently struck the nation. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed that two Indian Air Force C-17 transport aircraft have been dispatched, carrying over 35 tonnes of essential relief supplies. The shipment includes a specialized Indian Army Field Hospital unit, vital medical equipment, and two advanced BHISHM Cubes—portable systems specifically engineered to deliver rapid emergency medical care in disaster zones.

This mission follows a pledge of solidarity from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who expressed deep condolences to the victims and their families. As the crisis deepens in Venezuela, with the death toll climbing to 235 and thousands requiring urgent surgical intervention, India joins international efforts to stabilize the situation. The U.S. Southern Command has also mobilized military transport aircraft to assist with the humanitarian airlift, as both nations work to provide high-capacity support to the areas most severely impacted by the magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 tremors.
