Qatar Reveals Eid Al Adha 2026 Schedule Based on Astronomical Data

Sun, May 17, 2026(96d ago)World

Qatar has officially set the dates for Eid Al Adha in 2026, utilizing precise astronomical calculations to determine the start of the holy period. According to the announcement, the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH is expected to fall on Monday, May 18, 2026. Consequently, the celebration of Eid Al Adha is slated to begin on Wednesday, May 27.

Dr. Faisal Al-Ansari, the Executive Director of the Qatar Calendar House, explained that while the new crescent moon is set to form on Saturday evening, May 16, at 11:02 PM Doha time, it will remain invisible to the naked eye across Qatar and the broader Islamic world. Because the moon will not have officially formed by sunset on the observation day, astronomers have confirmed that sighting the crescent will be impossible, leading authorities to rely on these established astronomical projections for the upcoming calendar.
