Hamas Remains Committed to Gaza Peace Roadmap, Says Official
A senior official from the Hamas political bureau, Basem Naim, has reiterated the group’s willingness to uphold the US-brokered peace agreement aimed at resolving the conflict in Gaza. In a recent interview with CNN, Naim emphasized that despite ongoing hostilities, Hamas remains dedicated to the 15-point roadmap established in July. He argued that the organization has honored its obligations under the first phase of the plan and expressed a desire to move toward a lasting ceasefire that would restore stability and provide relief to the people of Gaza.
However, Naim expressed deep frustration with the Israeli government, accusing them of undermining the peace process through continued military escalations and a refusal to adhere to the agreed-upon terms. He pointed out that while Hamas has agreed to the eventual decommissioning of its weapons in exchange for a sovereign Palestinian state, the humanitarian provisions of the deal have yet to be realized. Naim framed the situation as a fundamentally political struggle rather than a purely military one, asserting that Hamas is prepared to transition into a political party should a viable, independent Palestinian state be established.
