Delhi High Court Mandates Apple’s Cooperation in Antitrust Probe
The Delhi High Court has directed Apple to fully comply with investigators regarding an ongoing antitrust probe into its iPhone app marketplace. Rejecting the tech giant's request to pause the proceedings, the court stipulated that while Apple must cooperate with the Competition Commission of India (CCI), the watchdog is barred from issuing a final verdict before July 15. The dispute stems from Apple's reluctance to share sensitive financial records, which the CCI requires to calculate potential penalties following findings that the company abused its dominant market position.
Apple had previously attempted to halt the investigation, arguing that the CCI was overstepping its authority by demanding financial data while a separate legal challenge against India’s penalty calculation laws remains unresolved. Despite these claims, the court’s decision underscores the mounting regulatory pressure Apple faces globally. As the company seeks to expand its footprint in the critical Indian market—where its iPhone market share has climbed to 9%—it must now navigate this heightened scrutiny from local authorities without further delays.
