US Launches Major Strikes Against Iranian Military Targets in Strait of Hormuz
The United States military has intensified its campaign against Iranian forces, launching a significant wave of strikes aimed at neutralizing threats to international shipping within the Strait of Hormuz. According to U.S. Central Command (Centcom), these operations targeted a broad array of Iranian infrastructure, including coastal radar sites, air-defense systems, and drone launch facilities. By utilizing a mix of fighter jets, naval assets, and both aerial and sea-based attack drones, the U.S. intends to curb Tehranâs ability to harass commercial vessels in this critical maritime corridor, which the U.S. maintains is not under Iranian control.
Over three consecutive nights of coordinated action, U.S. forces have hit over 300 targets, aiming to severely degrade Iranâs capacity to disrupt global trade. These strikes, ordered to hold Iranian forces accountable for ongoing aggression, follow a series of earlier operations that dismantled numerous missile positions and communications networks. Despite this sharp escalation in regional tensions, the U.S. emphasizes that it remains committed to protecting freedom of navigation, having successfully facilitated the safe passage of more than 800 commercial ships carrying millions of barrels of oil through the region since May.
