Mourning Declared Across Middle East for Former Qatar Emir
In a show of regional solidarity following the passing of Qatar’s Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, both Kuwait and Jordan have officially declared a four-day mourning period. Acting on directives from Kuwait’s Emir, Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, flags will fly at half-mast throughout Kuwait and at its diplomatic missions worldwide. Similarly, the Jordanian Royal Court announced its own four-day observance, reflecting the deep respect held for the late leader across the Arab world.
Beyond the Middle East, India has also joined in the tribute by observing a one-day period of national mourning on July 13, 2026. As a mark of respect, the Indian flag will be flown at half-mast, and all official entertainment events have been suspended. In Qatar, the government has mandated a four-day public mourning period, which includes a temporary suspension of work across all ministries and public institutions. The late Sheikh Hamad will be laid to rest at the Lusail Cemetery following funeral prayers at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab Mosque.
