India to Repatriate 15 Victims of Vietnam Boat Tragedy

Mon, Jul 13, 2026(4h ago)World

The Indian Embassy in Vietnam is working closely with local authorities to repatriate the remains of 15 Indian nationals who tragically lost their lives in a boat accident near Phu Quoc Island. The victims, consisting of 10 individuals from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh, and two from Kerala, were part of a corporate trip organized by the smartphone company Lava International for its southern Indian distributors. Of the 36 people on board the vessel—which included 32 Indians and four local crew members—21 were successfully rescued following the incident, which occurred when the boat capsized during a sudden storm shortly after departure.

Lava International has expressed profound sorrow over the loss of their channel partners and staff member, confirming that they are coordinating extensively with both the Indian embassy and Vietnamese officials to provide support to the affected families. Meanwhile, Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has launched an official investigation into the disaster, promising strict accountability for those found responsible. This incident has cast a shadow over Phu Quoc, a destination that has seen a surge in popularity among Indian tourists due to its visa-free policy and scenic appeal.
