Tensions Escalate as Iranian Newspaper Names International Leaders as Retaliation Targets

Mon, Jul 13, 2026(4h ago)World

In a provocative move that underscores rising regional volatility, the Tehran-based Hamshahri newspaper recently published an infographic featuring a "hit list" of international leaders targeted for retaliation. The publication followed a vow of vengeance from Mojtaba Khamenei, the son and successor of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed during a joint US-Israeli strike on February 28. In his first public statement since his father’s funeral, Mojtaba declared that the individuals responsible would be denied a peaceful death, signaling a hardening stance from the Iranian leadership.

The infographic, which circulated online but notably did not appear in the newspaper’s print edition, prominently features President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Also included are several high-profile Western officials, such as U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and French President Emmanuel Macron. While the newspaper is state-affiliated, there has been no official confirmation that the list reflects a sanctioned government strategy. This escalation comes amidst Tehran's ongoing accusations that European nations have acted as complicit parties in the conflict by facilitating U.S. military operations within their airspace.
