Prophet’s Birthday 2026: Public Holidays Announced Across the Gulf
In observance of the Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) birthday, several Gulf nations have officially declared public holidays, providing citizens and residents with a meaningful break to mark the occasion. Traditionally celebrated on the 12th of Rabi Al Awwal, the timing of this event varies annually according to the Islamic Hijri calendar. This year, countries across the region are adjusting their schedules to allow for a period of reflection and observance, with many residents benefiting from extended weekend arrangements.
The United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain have confirmed specific holiday dates to honor the day. In the UAE, while the event falls on a Tuesday, the government has shifted the public holiday to Friday, August 28, granting employees a convenient three-day weekend. Similarly, Oman and Kuwait have designated Thursday, August 27, as a public holiday for government sectors, also resulting in a three-day break. Meanwhile, Bahrain has opted to observe the holiday directly on Tuesday, August 25, marking the day with an official circular issued by the country’s leadership.
