Concerns Over Imran Khan's Declining Health in Custody
Former Pakistani President Arif Alvi has voiced serious concerns regarding the deteriorating health of incarcerated ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan, labeling his latest medical reports as "alarming." Alvi, who has maintained a decades-long relationship with the former leader, emphasized that Khan is battling significant anxiety, heart palpitations, and elevated blood pressure—symptoms he attributes to the harsh toll of prolonged isolation and restricted access to basic information. According to Alvi, even a seemingly standard resting heart rate of 54 beats per minute is atypical for Khan, suggesting that the psychological stress of his imprisonment is now manifesting as physical instability.
To address these worsening conditions, Alvi is calling for an immediate transfer of the former premier to a hospital setting overseen by an independent medical panel, noting a deep public mistrust of government-appointed physicians. He has recommended a comprehensive series of cardiac evaluations to prevent any potential long-term, irreversible damage to Khan's health. Meanwhile, Khan’s family and supporters continue to protest his ongoing incarceration, citing a total lack of communication over the past seven months. As political tensions in Pakistan persist, the debate over Khan’s medical welfare remains a central point of contention for his party, the PTI, which maintains that his legal challenges are part of a targeted effort to exclude him from the country’s political future.
