Kuwait Refutes Viral Claims of Crumbling Infrastructure

Sun, Aug 23, 2026(1h ago)World

Kuwaiti officials have officially debunked a circulating social media video that appeared to show a massive sinkhole on a public road near a local port. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Public Works, the footage is entirely misleading as it dates back several years and does not reflect the current state of the nation's infrastructure. Authorities have cautioned the public against sharing unverified content, noting that such misinformation can unnecessarily damage public trust and cause social alarm.

The ministry emphasized that it will pursue legal action against individuals found guilty of spreading false information, citing strict national laws that prohibit the dissemination of content capable of undermining state institutions or threatening public security. This incident marks another instance of the government stepping in to correct the record, similar to a previous occurrence in April where the Health Ministry had to clarify that viral footage of medical supplies at an airport was outdated. Citizens are strongly encouraged to rely solely on official government channels for news and to verify information before sharing it online.
