India Eliminates Physical Boarding Pass Stamping for International Flights

Sun, Aug 23, 2026(44m ago)World

Starting September 1, international travelers departing from India will no longer be required to present a physical boarding pass at immigration checkpoints. Under this new directive from the Bureau of Immigration, passengers can simply display their e-boarding passes on their smartphones to clear security and immigration. While travelers still have the option to carry a paper pass if they prefer, immigration officers will officially stop the practice of stamping them, marking a significant shift toward a more digitized travel experience.

The Bureau of Immigration, operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, introduced this change to reduce bottlenecks and improve overall efficiency at airports nationwide. Previously, the mandatory stamping process was not only inconvenient for passengers but also prone to human error, occasionally leading to issues when stamps were applied incorrectly or illegibly. By streamlining these procedures, Indian authorities aim to create a smoother, more modern departure process for all international flyers.
