A 5.8-Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Japan’s Honshu Coast
A magnitude 5.8 earthquake was detected off the eastern coast of Honshu, Japan, on Sunday, according to data from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The tremor occurred at a depth of approximately 78 kilometers, or about 48.5 miles, beneath the ocean floor.
The earthquake originated in the waters surrounding Honshu, which remains the most populous and largest island in the Japanese archipelago. While the geological event was significant in scale, authorities have yet to release details regarding potential damage or impact on the mainland.
