Air India Flight Suffers Tail Strike During Bengaluru Landing

Thu, May 21, 2026(91d ago)World

An Air India flight traveling from Delhi to Bengaluru experienced a tail strike during its landing in the Karnataka capital this past Thursday. The Airbus A321 aircraft, which was carrying 181 passengers, landed safely, allowing all individuals on board to disembark without injury. However, the airline was forced to cancel the return leg of the journey, and the aircraft has since been grounded to undergo a formal inspection.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, and in the interim, the pilots involved have been off-rostered. Air India has expressed regret for the disruption, confirming that ground teams are actively working to provide alternative travel arrangements for the affected passengers. While the airline maintains that passenger safety is their primary concern, this incident adds to a growing list of tail strike reports in the Indian aviation sector, which previously saw the regulatory body penalize other carriers for similar lapses.
