Delhi Transport Operators Launch Three-Day Strike Over Soaring Fuel Costs
Commuters across the National Capital Region faced significant travel disruptions this Thursday as thousands of commercial vehicle drivers initiated a three-day strike. Organized by the All-India Motor Transport Congress and its affiliates, the protest is a direct response to the relentless rise in petrol, diesel, and CNG prices, which drivers claim has made their current operational model unsustainable. Organizers highlighted that taxi fares have remained stagnant for over 15 years, leaving drivers struggling to cover basic expenses, and they have warned that the movement will intensify if the government does not intervene to revise fare structures soon.
The walkout has severely impacted services for app-based aggregators like Uber, Ola, and Rapido, as well as traditional autorickshaw availability. While some rival transport unions have opted to continue operations to avoid causing public distress, the shortage of vehicles has left many passengers at airports and railway stations stranded or vulnerable to price gouging by the few drivers still on the road. As a result, public infrastructure like the Delhi Metro and state bus services are experiencing a massive surge in footfall, with many commuters left scrambling to find reliable transport to reach their destinations.
