New Safety Directives for Power Banks on Saudi Flights

Fri, May 22, 2026(45d ago)World

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) in Saudi Arabia has officially updated its travel policies regarding the transport and use of power banks on all flights operating within the kingdom. Under these new guidelines, passengers are strictly prohibited from charging their portable power banks while onboard an aircraft. Furthermore, to maintain strict safety standards, all such devices must be kept in carry-on luggage rather than checked bags, with a limit of two power banks permitted per passenger.

These measures align with international aviation safety protocols aimed at mitigating the risks associated with lithium-ion batteries. Aviation experts have long highlighted the dangers these devices pose in a pressurized cabin environment, noting that physical or thermal stress can lead to overheating, the release of toxic fumes, or even dangerous fires. By implementing these stricter rules, Saudi aviation authorities are prioritizing passenger safety and ensuring that potential battery-related hazards are kept to an absolute minimum during air travel.
