CBI Seeks Custody of Twisha Sharma’s Mother-in-Law as Investigation Intensifies
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has formally requested a five-day remand for Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of the late Twisha Sharma, following her arrest in connection with a high-profile dowry death case. Giribala, a former judge, was taken into custody on Thursday after the Madhya Pradesh High Court revoked her anticipatory bail, overturning a previous decision that had granted her relief. Alongside this, the agency has also petitioned the Bhopal District Court for a five-day extension of the remand for the victim’s husband, Samarth Singh. Defense counsel for Giribala has indicated they will not oppose the investigative agency's request for custodial interrogation.
The case stems from the tragic death of Noida-based Twisha Sharma on May 12, just months after her marriage to Samarth Singh in December 2025. Her family has leveled serious accusations of dowry-related harassment, leading to charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Dowry Prohibition Act. With the Supreme Court of India now overseeing the process and mandating that the CBI expedite the probe, the investigation is moving forward rapidly. Both parties have been cautioned by the apex court to refrain from making public statements while the legal proceedings, which were recently fast-tracked by the High Court, continue to unfold.
