UAE Secures Top 5 Spot in Global Competitiveness Rankings

Thu, Jun 18, 2026(1h ago)Business

The UAE has once again cemented its status as a global powerhouse, securing the fifth spot in the 2026 IMD World Competitiveness Ranking. Beyond its overall success, the nation clinched the number one global ranking in Economic Performance, a testament to its long-term strategy of fostering an agile, future-ready economy. This achievement, shared alongside global leaders like Singapore and Switzerland, highlights the UAE's ability to maintain regional dominance for ten consecutive years while excelling in over 20 international indicators, including streamlined government processes and policy adaptability.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attributed this consistent progress to a unified national vision and the tireless work of institutional teams, noting that these rankings are a byproduct of a commitment to enhancing the quality of life and global trust. Hanan Mansoori of the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre further emphasized that this rise—from 28th place two decades ago to the top five today—is driven by economic diversification, with non-oil activities now accounting for nearly 80 percent of the economy. By prioritizing AI integration and institutional credibility, the UAE continues to prove that its competitive edge is built on sustainable growth rather than temporary gains.
