Tragedy Strikes Ras Laffan: 13 Lives Lost in Qatar Industrial Explosion

Tue, Jun 23, 2026(4h ago)Business

The Indian Embassy in Qatar has officially confirmed that 12 Indian citizens were among the 13 people killed in a devastating explosion at the Ras Laffan Industrial City late Sunday. The incident occurred during the restart of operations at the LNG complex, a facility that had been undergoing maintenance since late 2025. In addition to the Indian victims, one Pakistani national also lost their life in the blast, which left 66 others injured. Authorities have noted that the survivors are currently in stable condition and are receiving necessary medical care.

QatarEnergy has clarified that the explosion was an operational accident rather than an act of sabotage or external aggression. While the facility had only recently resumed operations, the company stated that the site’s export capabilities remain unaffected and there is no environmental threat. Both the Indian and Pakistani embassies are working in close coordination with Qatari officials to assist the families of the victims and arrange for the repatriation of the deceased. An official investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the disaster.
