Emirates Launches Urgent Wing Inspections for A380 Fleet

Wed, Jun 24, 2026(3h ago)Business

Following a safety alert regarding hairline fractures in wing components, Emirates has confirmed it is launching immediate inspections across its Airbus A380 fleet. The directive stems from a recent discovery by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, which identified structural issues in the beams that support aerodynamic loads during flight. Airbus has mandated that 16 aircraft—including 15 operated by Emirates and one by Qantas—undergo rigorous safety checks to ensure the continued structural integrity of these superjumbos.

Emirates stated that these essential inspections will begin within 48 hours, with any necessary repairs being completed before the affected planes are cleared for commercial service. As the world’s largest operator of the A380, the Dubai-based airline is coordinating closely with Airbus and global aviation authorities to manage the process while aiming to minimize flight schedule disruptions. Despite these unexpected maintenance requirements, the carrier continues its broad initiative to modernize its fleet, which remains one of the youngest and most advanced in the industry.
