Search Operations Underway After Cargo Plane Goes Missing Near Karachi
A K2 Airways cargo flight, carrying five crew members, vanished from radar on Tuesday night while en route to Karachi from Sharjah. Pakistani aviation officials report that the Boeing 737-400 freighter encountered navigational system issues shortly before losing contact with air traffic control. Flight-tracking data suggests the planeās final moments were erratic; it experienced extreme altitude fluctuations, including a sudden 5,000-foot drop followed by a sharp climb, before entering a rapid, final descent into the sea roughly 155 nautical miles west of Karachi.
In response to the disappearance, authorities have initiated an extensive search and rescue mission at sea. K2 Airways has confirmed it is working closely with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority and other government bodies during this difficult time. While experts caution that it is too early to determine the exact cause of the crash, the incident has drawn concern as the aviation community awaits further information. The aircraft, a 27-year-old freighter, had only recently joined the K2 Airways fleet earlier this year. If the worst is confirmed, this would mark Pakistanās first fatal aviation accident since the 2020 crash in Karachi.
