237 Dubai Hotels Earn Prestigious Sustainability Recognition

Wed, Jul 29, 2026(3h ago)Business

Dubai’s tourism sector has seen a significant shift toward eco-friendly operations, with 237 hotels recently awarded the Dubai Sustainable Tourism (DST) stamp. This marks an impressive 55 percent increase in participation compared to the previous cycle, highlighting a growing dedication to responsible hospitality. The honors are categorized into Gold, Silver, and Bronze tiers, with high-profile establishments like Atlantis The Palm, Atlantis The Royal, and Conrad Dubai achieving the top Gold status. This initiative, now in its third cycle, evaluates properties based on 19 rigorous standards, including energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, and active staff engagement.

Beyond mere recognition, the DST stamp serves as a vital resource for travelers looking to make environmentally conscious choices when booking their stays. To support this transition, the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) provides hotels with practical tools like a Carbon Calculator and specialized training modules to help them track emissions and streamline operations. Yousuf Lootah, a lead official at the DET, praised the hospitality industry's collaborative spirit, noting that these efforts are crucial for moving Dubai toward a low-carbon future. While 237 hotels have reached this milestone, the program remains an ongoing mission to encourage all local establishments to integrate sustainability into their long-term growth strategies.
