Dubai gold prices ease as oil rally fans US rate hike bets

Gold prices in Dubai saw a slight dip as the market opened on Monday, with 24K gold trading at Dh521.75 per gram compared to Dh524 over the weekend. Other variants, including 22K, 21K, 18K, and 14K, also experienced downward adjustments. This softening in local prices comes as precious metals are poised for a third consecutive weekly decline, currently down by approximately 2 percent globally. The trend is largely being pushed by rising crude oil prices and increased bond yields, which have dampened the metal's typical appeal during periods of geopolitical uncertainty.

Despite the recent slump, market experts suggest that the long-term outlook for gold remains stable. Analysts note that while the current conflict in the Middle East might usually boost safe-haven assets, the immediate pressure from energy prices and shifting bond markets is temporarily offsetting this demand. Factors such as robust central bank buying and ongoing concerns over fiscal sustainability provide a solid foundation for the metal’s future. For now, however, the precious metal market remains hypersensitive to fluctuations in the US dollar and interest rate expectations, while industrial metals like silver and platinum face further pressure due to a broader decline in market sentiment.
