Why UAE Expats Are Saving More While Spending Lavishly
A recent report by St James’s Place Middle East highlights that life in the UAE continues to be a financial boon for expatriates, with a staggering 97% confirming they save more here than they would back home. Driven by lucrative career opportunities and a favorable tax environment, nearly half of those surveyed are setting aside at least 25% more of their income than they did previously. While the cost of living in the region remains a point of discussion, the overwhelming majority of residents find that the financial advantages of living in the Emirates significantly outweigh the daily expenses.
Despite these higher savings, many expats are also embracing a more indulgent lifestyle, with substantial increases in spending on travel, leisure, and fine dining. Interestingly, this lifestyle inflation isn't hindering long-term security; the survey reveals that 88% of those spending more are simultaneously contributing larger amounts to their investments. Many residents believe their time in the UAE is fast-tracking their path to financial independence, allowing them to potentially retire years earlier than planned. As these individuals plant deeper roots, experts emphasize that they are increasingly prioritizing complex, cross-border financial planning to manage their growing international assets.
