In a strategic move to revive tourism figures, Abu Dhabi has launched a pilot program offering free UAE entry visas to Indian travellers. Abdulla Yousuf, a senior official at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, explained that the initiative was born out of direct feedback from Indian trade partners who cited rising airfares and the weakening rupee as significant barriers for families. By removing visa costs for those booking a minimum three-night stay, the emirate aims to alleviate the financial burden on Indian visitors and solidify its position as a top travel destination.

The pilot program, which is limited to 20,000 visas, runs from August 1 to October 31, 2026, and is already showing promising signs of success with a strong wave of early bookings. According to officials, many travellers are strategically timing their trips to coincide with the Diwali festival. While the department is currently focusing on this initial rollout, they remain open to expanding the initiative if the proof of concept holds. Furthermore, authorities are working to better educate travellers about existing visa-on-arrival options for those who already possess valid US, UK, or European visas, ensuring that more Indian tourists can seamlessly enjoy everything Abu Dhabi has to offer.
