Sharjah’s New Dh750-Million Road Network to Ease Dubai Commutes
Sharjah is launching an ambitious Dh750-million infrastructure initiative designed to streamline travel between the emirate and Dubai. Spearheaded by Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the project aims to tackle chronic congestion on some of the UAE’s busiest routes by creating new, efficient corridors. The crown jewel of this development is a new underground tunnel beneath Al Taawun, which will establish a direct path toward Dubai via the Al Nahda Bridge. By diverting through-traffic beneath the surface, the tunnel is expected to significantly alleviate the pressure on existing junctions, particularly the Al Taawun Roundabout.
In addition to the tunnel, the construction of Noor Road—a new artery extending from Al Orooba Street into Dubai—is set to provide motorists with a vital alternative route. Scheduled to open by the end of 2026, this road will improve access to key residential and commercial districts, while also enhancing connections to major highways like the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road. Furthermore, the upgrades will simplify travel for visitors heading to the Expo Centre Sharjah. Ultimately, these investments represent a strategic effort to foster greater connectivity and openness between the two emirates, promising a smoother, more efficient daily commute for thousands of residents.
