RAK Summer Etiquette Camp Sees Over 1,050 Children Preserving Emirati Heritage
Ras Al Khaimah’s inaugural Al Sanaa Al Saifi summer camp has seen an impressive turnout, with over 1,050 children joining the initiative—far exceeding initial projections. Spanning 13 centers across the emirate, the program is dedicated to instilling authentic Emirati customs and social values in children aged 7 to 12. By moving away from traditional classroom lectures and focusing on hands-on experiences, such as mastering the art of serving Arabic coffee or practicing formal guest greetings, the program ensures that young participants truly internalize their cultural roots.
The curriculum, developed with the guidance of heritage experts and community elders, emphasizes core values like generosity, teamwork, and the spirit of "fazaa," or helping those in need. Organizers use a gamified approach, awarding points to groups named after these values to keep students engaged. Early feedback is already promising, with coordinators reporting a marked boost in the children’s self-confidence and communication skills. As the program concludes, organizers plan to use parental feedback to evaluate its success and explore future expansions, potentially including teen participants and additional heritage-based activities to ensure these traditions remain a vibrant part of the next generation's daily life.
