Dubai Resident Hailed for Reporting Dirty Metro Signboard
When Indian expatriate Tanweer Ahmed noticed that a signage at the World Trade Centre Metro station had become weathered and obscured by dust, he decided to take action rather than simply walk past it. The 25-year-old multimedia designer snapped a few photos and sent a polite message to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) via social media. To his amazement, the authority responded within two hours, and by the following day, the sign had been replaced with a sparkling, brand-new board. Ahmed later shared his experience in a video that went viral with over 6.7 million views, sparking a wave of appreciation from fellow residents who praised the city’s remarkable responsiveness and commitment to maintaining its high standards.
The story caught the attention of local officials, leading to a special recognition ceremony where Ahmed was honored by Mohammed Abdullah Al Qarqawi, the Executive Director of the Office of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, alongside RTA Director General Matar Mohammed Al Tayer. This event highlights Dubai’s culture of civic engagement, where the authorities actively encourage residents to play a role in maintaining the city's infrastructure through platforms like WhatsApp and dedicated smart channels. From fixing road defects to responding to community feedback, Dubai continues to foster a collaborative environment where even the smallest contributions from citizens and expats are valued and celebrated, further strengthening the bond between the government and the community.
