Abu Dhabi’s TAQA Breaks Ground with Landmark $750 Million Blue Bond
Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, TAQA, has officially launched a $750 million blue bond, setting a significant milestone as the first government-backed entity in the GCC to secure funding specifically for sustainable water and wastewater management. This five-year issuance, which is currently listed on the London Stock Exchange, stands as the largest blue bond within the EMEA region and represents a global record for an integrated utility provider. The strong interest from international investors underscores confidence in TAQA’s financial stability, particularly given the bond’s high credit ratings from Moody’s and Fitch.
The capital raised will be directed toward critical initiatives outlined in TAQA’s Green and Blue Finance Framework, focusing on desalination, water distribution, and wastewater recycling. According to group CEO Jasim Husain Thabet, these investments are vital for addressing water scarcity in a region where such resources are increasingly strained. This latest move brings TAQA's total sustainable financing to $2.6 billion since 2023, reflecting a broader commitment to the company's 2030 growth strategy. Having ramped up its capital expenditure significantly over the past year, TAQA continues to prioritize low-carbon power and resilient water infrastructure to meet the rising demand for essential utility services.
