Sharjah Ruler Unearths Childhood Poem After Decades-Long Search
For decades, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, held onto only a few fragmented lines of a poem he first heard as a young schoolboy. Despite his persistent efforts to track down the full text by consulting old classmates and elders, the complete work remained out of reach. That changed recently when he finally recovered all 14 verses of the composition, a discovery he described with deep appreciation for its rich imagery and historical significance. He shared this personal milestone during an appearance on the Direct Line radio program, where he was discussing future community projects in Kalba.
The poem, which dates back to 1855 AH, was written by Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi as a response to the renowned Omani poet Nasir bin Salim Abu Muslim Al Bahlani. During the broadcast, the Sharjah Ruler reflected on the vivid, enduring memories of his first days at Al-Islah Al-Qasimia School nearly 80 years ago. He recalled sensory details, such as the woven mats the students sat on and the excitement of hearing the school's welcoming songs, noting that these precious moments from his youth continue to hold a special place in his heart despite the passage of time.
