UAE President declares January 7 as Zayed the Founder Day
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed has officially designated January 7 as "Zayed the Founder Day," a new annual observance dedicated to honoring the nation’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Often remembered as the "wise man of the Arabs," Sheikh Zayed was the primary architect of the UAE, recognized for his extraordinary patience, visionary leadership, and commitment to humanitarian values. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed reflected on this milestone by emphasizing that the late leader’s life was defined by his selfless service and the firm foundations he laid to nurture the country’s growth.
This commemorative day is designed to serve as a catalyst for year-round programming, encouraging both individuals and organizations to embody the late leader’s core principles. The date itself carries deep symbolic meaning, bridging the "7" emirates that formed the union with the legacy of 1971. By placing this observance at the start of each year, the initiative ensures that younger generations—many of whom were born long after his passing—have a structured opportunity to reconnect with the values that built the UAE, fostering a deeper understanding of the history and vision that continue to shape the nation today.
