Dubai Man Undergoes Successful Complex Heart Surgery While Organ Kept Beating

Thu, Jul 30, 2026(45d ago)UAE

A 55-year-old Dubai resident, Santokh Singh Ajit Singh, recently underwent a life-saving eight-hour bypass operation that successfully corrected severe arterial blockages while his heart remained fully functional. Initially, Santokh had ignored persistent chest and shoulder pain, assuming it was minor discomfort until it became unbearable. Upon visiting Aster Hospital in Al Qusais, medical professionals discovered he was suffering from advanced coronary artery disease exacerbated by high cholesterol. Surgeons emphasized the urgency of the situation, recommending a complex multi-vessel bypass to prevent further cardiac damage.

The surgical team performed a technically demanding five-vessel bypass, utilizing the patient's own arteries—including those from his forearm—to create 11 distinct connections. By keeping the heart beating throughout the procedure and avoiding manipulation of the aorta, the surgeons significantly reduced the risk of complications such as stroke. Lead surgeon Dr. Sandeep Srivastava noted that the team had to perform intricate plaque removal and arterial reconstruction to restore proper blood flow. Following the successful operation, Santokh experienced a smooth recovery and has expressed his deep gratitude for the advanced medical care he received, which allowed him to return to a stable state.
