Cooling Down: Abu Dhabi’s Parks Now Offer Year-Round Outdoor Escapes
For years, the sweltering heat of an Abu Dhabi summer effectively sidelined outdoor activities between May and October, forcing residents to stick to early mornings or late nights. However, a new wave of urban planning is transforming the city's green spaces, introducing climate-controlled walkways that allow people to enjoy lush environments regardless of the temperature. By integrating high-tech cooling systems directly into park pathways, the city is offering a refreshing alternative to the traditional mall-walking culture.
The recent redesign of Khalidiyah Park highlights this shift, featuring a 660-metre air-conditioned route that winds through sports courts and quiet gardens. Similarly, the expansive King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Park in Al Mushrif boasts a 700-metre cooled trail, complemented by an array of amenities like yoga decks, cycling paths, and a scenic café. These projects, building on the success of an initial pilot program in Al Mamoura, are successfully proving that residents don't have to sacrifice their fitness routines or connection to nature simply because of the desert heat.
